Junk Drawer, 2023

Acrylic on Canvas

Junk Drawer is an ode to things forgotten. The baby teeth your mother kept, the rotten fruit at the bottom of your pantry, the hair clips you lost and will never find. In recent months my art practice has turned to the study of the objects we encounter in our everyday lives, challenging how we value them. This painting extends this idea of finding beauty in unexpected, rotten places. It reflects the myriad of possessions that accumulate in the chaos of our lives. Through this piece, I ask you to reflect on the significance of the things we hold dear, and the things we don’t, and approach the world with fresh eyes and an open heart once more.

Junk Drawer’ was created for the Bittersweet Exhibition. Created by Claudia Thorp or Eye Fleur, the exhibition was an exploration of dualism, juxtapositions and oxymorons. The following is the official exhibition poster which I also illustrated for the show.
