Devotion, 2025

Cyanotype printed images, sewn into a wall hanging.

The project Devotion expands upon themes of craft, memory and intergenerational skill. This piece reflects on the gradual loss of domestic and craft based skills - reflecting on how these practices were once so valued as a means of care - specifically within women's lives. This work reflects my own disconnection - as although my two older sisters were taught to sew & crochet by my grandmother, I was not as I was too young. In imperfectly sewing these images together myself, I practice the process of devotion. The unskilled stitching becomes integral to the work - representing the symbolic rupture of generational knowledge and the attempt to repair it.

The final form of Devotion operates as an offering of care & labour. A quiet devotion to the women who came before me, and a reflection on the fragility of memory.
